Hybrid Landscapes: Altered Nature
is a speculative project exploring hybrid phenomena through the examination of cases where human intervention disrupts natural processes, resulting in the emergence of new hybrid species. As landfills transform into spaces of plant growth, they challenge conventional distinctions between the “natural” world and human-dominated, artificial environments. This became a starting point for investigating other situations where these boundaries begin to blur.

The project dives deeper into the influence of human activity on natural growth, evolving into a speculative exploration of plant futures in the aftermath of a hypothetical Third World War involving nuclear conflict between Russia, America, and Ukraine. It examines the effects of ionising radiation on plant species and proposes possible evolutionary pathways, imagining how plants might adapt and transform within these altered environments.

Through this inquiry, the project reflects on the long-term consequences of human interaction with nature. It questions how we perceive environmental damage and our relationship with natural processes, considering human intervention not only through its impact on us, but as a force capable of shaping future ecological systems.
